Writing for a global audience is a distinct challenge that can trouble even the best in the field. Writing global content requires a good grasp of the subtleties of language in terms of cultural context, word choice, and construction in order to make sure that their words are understood by many diverse groups of people. Keep reading to learn more about how to write quality content for a global audience that can be easily translated.

How to write global content

Writing global content that is well-suited for international publication and, therefore, translation requires a good grasp of the subtleties of language in terms of:

  • cultural context
  • word choice
  • construction

Writing with a global audience in mind can make translation much easier, reducing time and cost. Successfully managing these three areas will make reading the finalized content and document translation easier (and more enjoyable) – your translators and readers will thank you for it!

Consider the following sentence:

“Work’s been wearing me down and I really need a change of pace, so I’ll be at the beach two weeks.”

This statement, while informal, would not sound out of place in everyday conversation, and a native speaker can easily discern its full meaning: the person speaking is tired from the constant effort required of them in their professional life and wants to regain some energy by taking a vacation by the sea. Its seeming simplicity is deceptive, though.

There are three distinct features within it that could confuse someone whose primary language is not English.

Cultural assumptions

  • To start, the basic message of the statement speaks to a cultural context that some cultures lack. English-speaking countries tend to place a lot of value on both work and specifically-allotted vacation time, distinguishing clearly between the two. However, this is not consistent across all cultures.
  • In Japan, for example, dedication and loyalty are extremely valued qualities among employees. As such, expressing fatigue in this way and announcing an intention to leave work altogether for two whole weeks is rarely done. Japanese readers, therefore, are more likely to be shocked by the statement than to have the casual, accepting reaction that the speaker likely intended.
  • This difference in interpretation can radically affect the tone of a text and become distracting or even offensive in certain situations. When composing a text meant for people from many different cultures, try to identify statements where this clash might happen. Though you’ll never be able to avoid all potential instances of this problem, you should be able to minimize them by being careful.

Troublesome words

Next, you must examine the phrase ‘work’s wearing me down.’

  • You know that it describes a kind of professional exhaustion, but in reality, a person’s work is a conceptual action, not an actor itself.
  • Phrasing this sentiment through this kind of abstract personification is a poor choice when writing for diverse readers; it can be difficult to translate due to the extra layer of interpretation it demands. Most readers could figure out what you meant, but they might not be entirely sure of their guesses.
  • From your point of view, it may be difficult to imagine the expression meaning anything else, but this is because cultures tend to have a set of stock iterations of personification that become unconscious knowledge to natives.

Structural snags

Finally, the last few words of the statement pose unique problems due to their casual omission of a preposition.

  • English allows for grammatical oddities like this from time to time, but not all languages are so flexible, and an international reader may not understand that this can be done. In this case, native speakers know that there is an unspoken ‘for’ preceding the ‘two weeks, and that this means we can expect the original speaker to be gone for that length of time.
  • If, however, a reader is not familiar enough with the English language to intuit this strange construction, they may wonder how they are meant to parse the sentence. Does it mean that the speaker will be away within the next two weeks? Does it mean that they will be leaving after two weeks have passed? Is ‘beach two weeks’ some specific naming convention for places that the reader does not know? There’s no easy way for them to find out.

Sometimes, content writers, whether newbies or professionals, may get lost in the maze of writing several marketing and other materials. That is when they should consider the dos and don’ts of content writing.

Overlooking a few crucial steps or harping on the less important content writing processes can be common mistakes for them. They may forget or even ignore the fact that a changing world requires a constantly evolving writing etiquette

In such cases, marketing managers or content heads need to educate and train their content writers. With this education, content writers can improve their writing quality to make it fit in today’s digital world.

You can also delegate content writing tasks to them confidently.

To help you educate other writers, or even yourself, if you are one, we have listed the dos and don’ts of writing content. Keep reading to find out what you should and should not do when writing any content piece for your website!

What Are the Do’s and Don’ts of Content Writing?

The dos and don’ts of blogging are a list of the basic rules you must keep in mind to create content that sells. These rules are related to grammar, SEO, tone, and writing style, among other elements of writing.

Following them can help you communicate with your target audience in an engaging and relevant manner.

Let us now explore each of the dos and don’ts of creative writing in detail.

The Do’s of Content Writing

1. Do Research Before Writing

Great content ideas start with great research. You need to conduct extensive research to provide your readers with valuable stories, interesting points, and relevant facts. All of these can help keep your target audience engaged with your content.

More importantly, research before content writing helps you organize your thoughts enough to create an outline (more on that further below). It also helps you become an expert on the topic you are writing about.

While researching for your next impactful blog post, be mindful of the content you find online. Always look for information from reputable and authentic sources.

Apart from validating your content, research can shed light on the following points:

  • The platforms where your target audience usually is.
  • How your target audience interacts with other online brands and businesses.
  • The topics can resonate with them.
  • The type of content your competitors are using.
  • The kind of response the competitors are receiving from their audience.

Extensive research in the above directions can help ensure you are following the correct path in your content marketing.

2. Do Keep Editing and Proofreading

Spelling and grammatical errors make anyone’s writing look unprofessional. No reader would want to read a piece of writing filled with such errors, no matter how informative it is.

To avoid such a scenario, proofread your content thoroughly before publishing to ensure its high quality and lack of errors.

Try reading the content piece aloud to detect any errors or inconsistencies in sentence structures. Once you identify such errors, edit the content straightaway.

An alternative option is to use proofreading tools, such as Grammarly.

3. Do Learn and Implement SEO

If your content is on the first page of Google’s Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs), there is a higher chance of consumers finding your content organically.

In fact, a 2022 study found that the clickthrough rate (CTR) for websites ranking first on Google’s SERPs is 39.6%. If the first result is a featured snippet, then the CTR increases to 43.7%. This figure drops to 18.4% for websites ranking second and then drastically to 2.2% for websites in tenth position.

Moreover, the study claims that the top 3 organic search results receive about 68% of all clicks on Google’s SERPs.

You can see what a cut-throat competition the SERP is. Fewer clicks on your website mean fewer visits, which mean fewer chances of generating leads. The ultimate result here is fewer revenue.

This is why Search Engine Optimization (SEO) should be the name of your content writing game. It can bring traffic to your website free of cost! So, learn and incorporate an SEO strategy in your content writing process.

For example, when writing a blog post or webpage content, writing effective 160-character meta descriptions can complement an equally effective headline. Ensure your meta descriptions contain your keywords as well.

Also, learn how to format your content for on-page SEO by:

  • Breaking down the content into headings and subheadings
  • Using numbered or bullet points
  • Sprinkling keywords naturally throughout the content
  • Properly structuring the blog post, that is, introduction, then the body, followed by the conclusion
  • Using internal links to pass on link equity to pages or posts you wish to highlight for search engines and your audience
  • Externally linking to high-authority and relevant websites
  • Writing long-form blog posts of over 2,000 words (if it adds value)
  • Adding alt text to each image in your blog post
  • Compressing images without sacrificing their quality to make sure that the page loads quickly

4. Do Provide Value to the Reader

Readers do not have time to read just for the sake of reading. They read to discover answers to their questions, gain knowledge, or entertain themselves.

These are the values they look for when starting to read your content. So, do your own research and understand the topic you are writing on.

Most importantly, though, tell yourself why you are writing the content piece in the first place. What purpose does it serve? What value does it add to the reader’s experience?

To better understand the purpose of your content, it is time to map your content to the buyer’s journey

5. Do Focus on the Headline

One of the most significant elements in your writing is your headline or title. Creating an impactful headline requires as much time as you spend writing each content piece.

Without a great headline, the rest of your content piece, including the introduction, the body, and the conclusion, amounts to nothing. This is because an effective headline is going to make your audience want to click on it and read your blog post.

A compelling headline for your blog post or other content piece should have all or any of the following elements:

6. Do Write Short Paragraphs

Nowadays, any content piece containing over 300 to 500 words works for both search engines and readers. Yes, even if the said content piece exceeds 2,000 words (of course, each word should matter, too).

In the cases of paragraphs, though, the scenario is exactly the opposite. If you cram multiple ideas into a single paragraph, it may overwhelm your readers.

Remember, your readers do not click on your website only to find themselves facing a philosophical treatise. They want to read clear information about your brand and its solutions to their problems.

Hence, keep your paragraphs short, simple, and concise to enhance clarity and readability. Short paragraphs are easier to read and skim through, which is why they help to keep your readers’ attention.

The general rule is to keep your paragraphs three to four sentences long, and not more. Indeed, even one sentence can be enough to qualify as a paragraph, if need be.

To maintain writing etiquette, each paragraph in your content should set up a smooth transition to the next paragraph.

7. Do Insert Links In Your Blog Posts

Internal links to other valuable blog posts or webpages can keep readers on your website longer, thereby reducing the bounce rate. This paves the way for internal linking to increase your potential for converting leads to customers.

Furthermore, linking to other useful content on your website lets search engines create an accurate sitemap of your website.

When you link to outside sources, as well, that are renowned for their authority on the topic, your audience sees your blog as a credible, trustworthy source of information.

Therefore, putting both internal and external links in your blog posts is a productive idea.

Keep in mind that the anchor text for the links should be natural and not generic or spammy.

A generic anchor text would be “click here”, while a spammy one would be “the best cheap smartphones”. Instead, head toward a descriptive anchor text, such as “download your ebook on content writing basics”.

8. Do Keep Studying and Building Topical Authority

If you are passionate about what you write, start reading on the topic as much as possible. You can even gobble up podcasts, documentaries, audiobooks, or whatever works for you, on that topic.

The more you read and educate yourself on the subject, the smoother your words will flow when writing. This will lead to quicker turnaround times for your quality content.

It will also help you establish yourself as an expert writer within a specific niche or industry.

Content Writing Don’ts

1. Don’t Ignore Keyword Research

Keyword research is a vital part of content strategy nowadays. The power of keyword research lies in understanding how often people search with certain words in your industry. How are they searching for your products, services, or content?

This is where keyword research becomes useful. It can help you better understand your target market by determining which strategic keywords you should insert in your content.

In short, whenever people search for a keyword you have targeted, your webpage might show up in the Google SERPs. Therefore, do not avoid keyword research, but think of it as the batter for your cake of content.

Of course, every content writer does not need to be an SEO expert. Nevertheless, with tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush, finding relevant keywords is a walk in the park.

2. Don’t Plagiarize Content

You may have come across plenty of content writers who copy/paste other writers’ content. Do not, on any account, be tempted to follow in their footsteps!

First of all, practicing plagiarism shows you are not a writer in the real sense of the word. It also indicates your disinterest in your client or agency’s business and more of an interest in your earnings.

How so? Well, writing and publishing directly copied content can cause your agency or client’s website to get removed from search engines. They may have to face other serious penalties, as well.

Knowing this, if you keep copying other writers’ content, it means you think your client’s website does not matter.

To be on the safe side, use online plagiarism checkers, such as Grammarly PremiumDuplichecker, or SmallSEOTools, before publishing content.

Of course, there may be several instances where certain pieces of information, including images, are not readily available, but you still need to publish those on your website. In these cases, do not forget to cite the source.

3. Don’t Forget to Write Outlines

Instead of drafting an entire blog post right away from start to finish, begin with an outline.

This helps clear up your mind from the start as to what sub-topics you will be touching on in your content piece. It also helps you stay on track, ensuring you do not wander from the main topic.

Naturally, each blog post will have a different outline. However, the general outline may remain the same.

For instance, when writing a blog post on content marketing metrics, write all the headings and the sub-headings, including the “Conclusion”. Some content writers prefer writing the introduction, too, in their outline.

4. Don’t Write Repetitive or Fluffy Content

Avoid using too many words in your sentences. You may find new content writers writing the same ideas over and over again in the same article. Some of them may also add irrelevant content to increase the word count of their articles.

Unless necessary to drive your idea home, keeping your sentences up to 20 words long is a good practice.

Each word you write in your article should help add value to your audience. Only then can the audience find your content fruitful, and consequently, keep turning to your website for more content.

5. Don’t Procrastinate Writing

Some writers claim they cannot start writing unless their creative juices start flowing. For this reason, they prefer to wait for their creativity to come knocking at their mind’s door. Only when this creativity surfaces, do they start drafting their content.

Do not make this mistake of procrastinating just to wait for your creative moment. In case you often find yourself procrastinating your writing work, ask yourself the possible reason for this.

Are you putting off writing because you are tired of your current writing job? Thousands of writing jobs are available online, so you can easily find the type of job you want.

6. Don’t Write using Complicated Vocabulary

The more complicated jargon you use in your content, the more difficult it would be for readers to understand it. When they find it tough to read and understand your content, they are likely to lose interest in your blog posts and articles.

As a result, they may stop reading your content altogether. If that happens, search engines may not find your content appealing, either.

Therefore, you should keep the language simple and readable. Even when you have to write technical content for a knowledgeable audience, explaining the technical jargon in as few words as possible is a good idea.

Use tools like Readable and Hemingway Editor to improve your content’s readability.

7. Don’t Copy Your Competitors

Your competitors’ content strategy may differ from yours and target a slightly different audience. Therefore, merely copying and rewriting your competitors’ content is not likely to get you anywhere.

This will prevent you from creating your own voice for your brand or being original.

The only spaces where you should keep an eye on your competitors are the backlinks and the keyword rankings.

8. Don’t Write Inconsistently

Blogging campaigns need to run on consistent schedules. For example, if you are writing three blog posts a week, schedule those on the same times and the same days every week.

To be able to churn out that content consistently, you need to train yourself to write at the same time every day – possibly within the same deadlines, too.

Soon, you will find your mind adapting to the fixed timings and your words flowing smoothly.

9. Don’t Focus on Instant ROI

When SEO and blogs are involved in your content strategy, six months of time is the bare minimum for measuring results.

You cannot expect to receive a Return on Investment (ROI) right after you publish a couple of blog posts, whether those are SEO-optimized or not. That signals a short-term mindset on your part.

No matter what type of content you write, you need to remain patient. Focus more on building a loyal audience than on vanity metrics such as likes, upvotes, or comments.

To build a loyal reader base, you need to engage in long-term content writing strategies that work.

10. Don’t Forget Your Physical and Mental Health

You can write at your full potential only when you feel good about yourself both mentally and physically. If you are not healthy, it will reflect in your content, the quality of which is bound to be poor.

So, for your best writing performance, you need to keep both your mind and your body fit. Find what works for you in terms of your diet and try doing exercises or even yoga, daily.

Conclusion: Check Writing Etiquette

Contrary to popular belief, the content writing process is essentially a trial-and-error method.

Nobody can guarantee the exact results, but the idea is to keep analyzing blog metrics and create content accordingly. So, we have explained the dos and don’ts of content writing to help you create content providing value to your audience.

What if you do not have adequate time, though, to focus on writing content for your website or for your clients? If you do not pay attention to content creation, your content may start confusing your readers, or even get sloppy. A negative brand impression will follow, resulting in your brand losing customers.

Creating SEO-friendly articles is essential for businesses and individuals looking to improve their online visibility. Search engine optimization (SEO) plays a crucial role in determining the rank of a Website on search engine results pages (SERPs). By crafting articles that are optimized for SEO, you can increase the likelihood of your content being discovered by a wider audience.

Step 1: Understand Your Audience and Keywords

The first step in crafting an SEO-friendly article is to understand your target audience and the keywords they are using to search for relevant content. Conduct keyword research to identify the terms and phrases that are most relevant to your topic. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner, SEMrush, or Ahrefs to find relevant keywords with high search volume and low competition. By understanding the language that your audience uses, you can create content that resonates with them and improves your chances of ranking for those keywords.

Step 2: Create High-Quality, Engaging Content

Once you have identified your target keywords, IT‘s time to create high-quality, engaging content that provides value to your audience. Your articles should be well-researched, informative, and easy to read. Use subheadings, bullet points, and numbered lists to break up your content and make it more digestible for readers.

It’s important to note that search engines prioritize content that provides value to users. Therefore, focus on creating content that addresses the needs and interests of your audience. Avoid keyword stuffing or creating content solely for the purpose of ranking in search results. Instead, prioritize providing useful information that keeps visitors engaged on your website.

Step 3: Optimize Your On-Page Elements

Optimizing your on-page elements is crucial for improving the SEO-friendliness of your articles. This includes optimizing your meta title, meta description, and URL to reflect your target keywords. Using your target keyword in these elements can help search engines understand the relevance of your content to a user’s search query.

Additionally, incorporate your target keyword naturally throughout your article, including in your headings, subheadings, and body content. However, be mindful of overusing keywords, as this can lead to keyword stuffing and negatively impact the readability of your content.

Step 4: Utilize Internal and External Links

Internal and external links are important for SEO as they can improve the overall authority and relevance of your content. Internal links help search engines understand the structure of your website and the relationship between different pages. Additionally, they can keep users engaged by directing them to related content on your website.

External links, also known as backlinks, are links from other websites that point to your content. These are a crucial factor in determining the authority and credibility of your content. When other reputable websites link to your content, it signals to search engines that your content is trustworthy and relevant. However, be cautious of the sources and relevance of the external links you include in your articles, as low-quality or irrelevant links can negatively impact your SEO efforts.

Step 5: Optimize for Readability and User Experience

Ensuring that your content is easy to read and provides a positive user experience is essential for SEO. Use clear and concise language, and avoid jargon or overly complex sentences. Incorporate multimedia elements such as images, videos, and infographics to enhance the visual appeal of your content and improve engagement.

Additionally, pay attention to the loading speed of your website, as this can impact user experience and SEO. Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to identify opportunities for improving your website’s loading speed.

Step 6: Measure and Iterate

After publishing your SEO-friendly articles, it’s important to measure their performance and iterate on your strategy. Use tools like Google Analytics to track the organic traffic and engagement metrics of your articles. Pay attention to the keywords that are driving traffic to your content and identify opportunities for improvement.

Iterate on your keyword strategy, content creation process, and on-page optimization based on the insights you gather. By continuously monitoring and improving your SEO efforts, you can enhance the performance of your articles and increase their visibility on search engines.

Conclusion

Crafting SEO-friendly articles requires a strategic approach that focuses on understanding your audience, creating high-quality content, and optimizing your on-page elements. By following the step-by-step guide outlined in this article, you can enhance the SEO-friendliness of your articles and improve their visibility on search engines.

Podcasts are hot. But did you know that podcasts are an effective and affordable way to reach any target demographic audience? Whether you need to reach males, females or a particular age demographic, podcasts can acquire and deliver a loyal audience. Podcast listeners are more likely to be college-educated and have higher family incomes.

February 2020 Nielsen study confirms that podcast listenership continues to grow at a rate of 20% annually and could double by 2023. Podcast subscribers listen everywhere–not only at home, but in transit (auto, bus, and rail) and at work. They listen both on their smartphones and on their smart speakers — and smart speakers’ audiences often include other family members.

Today, more than 800,000 podcasts produce more than 29 million episodes a year. Whatever your target, podcasts offer your clients a fresh and engaging marketing tool.

A great script is the first essential step in producing an engaging podcast

MediaTracks helps podcast clients get started with concept, format development and script writing. Crafting compelling content that draws listeners in helps ensure that subscribers will download and listen to every episode.

Knowing how to write a podcast might be outside the scope of your firm’s expertise. Consider what MediaTracks provides in our complete podcast script writing services.

Here’s what we’ll do:

  • Sit down with you and your client to learn the goals and expectations of initiating a podcast.
  • Develop a plan to meet these goals effectively.
  • Work one-on-one with you to learn inside and out the products or services offered and carefully develop memorable episodes.

What does MediaTracks do during the podcast script writing process?

Scripts to set your client apart from others in their genre. Your client’s genre influences the tone and mood of your podcasts. The top five genres are Society and Culture, Comedy, Health, Business, and News and Business.

The writers at MediaTracks have amassed decades of experience crafting audio scripts that paint a picture or set the mood for your client — whether they are a retailer, a non-profit, or a healthcare provider. Using visually-expressive words to stimulate listeners’ imaginations, we keep listeners engaged and wanting to hear more.

Script writers with specific industry experience writing for audio. MediaTracks’ script writers write only for audio; we understand the power of words (without the visual cues of video) to create mental images or to communicate actions.

Writing a podcast script differs from writing a radio commercial or PSA (Public Service Announcement). Podcast scripts are significantly longer, yet they must continue to engage the listener throughout. First, a general outline of the topics for each episode is developed. Then, each podcast script is formatted to ensure the continuity of the message within each episode and to persuade listeners to listen to future episodes.

MediaTracks writers skillfully use segues within each podcast script to ensure smooth transitions between topics within each episode.

Our writers provide delivery notes for podcast scripts — delivery notes ensure the pace of the script with appropriate pauses and emphasis. Delivery notes also help newcomers to an audio studio feel relaxed and genuine–a must for a podcast’s success.

Scripts that entice listeners with appealing hooks or leads. The MediaTracks writers never lose sight of the ultimate purpose of a podcast — to generate more business for your client or more donations for your non-profit.

Edison Research reveals that while 41% of new podcast listeners listen to the entire podcast, 71% of long-time established podcast listeners listen to the end. Further, loyalty to a podcast brings action your client can use–Edison confirms that an astonishing 54% of podcast listeners say they’re more likely to consider brands heard in a podcast.

That’s why MediaTracks writers cultivate the “art of enticement” when crafting podcast scripts. They tease with humor or engaging questions to persuade the audience to listen to the entire episode. Our writers include the call-to-action (CTA) early in the podcast as well as late to solidify your client’s intended purpose for the podcast.

When appropriate, our writers use real-life stories that listeners relate to their own experiences to “hook” the listener early in the podcast. Our writers may employ a catchy phrase or jingle used at the beginning of every podcast episode to hook listeners.

  • Description Hook – description of a situation or location to entice the listener
  • Fact Hook – a statistic or astonishing fact to pull the listener into knowing more
  • Interesting Question – curiosity wins because listeners want to know the answer
  • Quotation Hook – a compelling quotation about the topic of the podcast

The content in your e-commerce site needs to be more than just a flock of words at various assigned spots on the website.

The words need to breathe life into your online store, your products, your brand.

Want to know what makes great eCommerce content?

We’ve got you covered with some tips on how to craft content that gets people buying and has them coming back for more.

Full E-Commerce Product Descriptions

When surfing on an e-commerce site, remember that users have two main aims: purchase or research. To satisfy both these aims, you can’t afford to give half-baked product information.

If you’re selling a bag, only its price and picture isn’t enough, even if the picture speaks a thousand words. In any case your picture doesn’t speak a thousand words because your customer is eternally highly curious.

He needs to know the dimensions, materials, colors available and much more. Also you’re killing chances of your site not showing up in the top words of the search engine query due to lacking product description.

Don’t Forget the Keywords

After you have finished writing all the product descriptions and details, try adding keywords that people will be typing while searching. Key phrases like ‘blue bag’, ‘bling bag’ can be included if your product is a ‘blue bling bag’. However, you need to be careful not to repeat the same keywords and key phrases several times in your e-commerce content as it would lead to a penalty. Search engines dislike excess of repetition.

Use Keyword-Friendly Urls

Having speaking URLs is almost half the work done. This is one: ebook/the-davinci-code-33. A speaking URL enhances the understanding of the visitors. They know to expect a book – The Da Vinci Code. Such URLs are frequently reposted by other websites.

Make Sure Users See Your Point

It is best to clearly state your main point first rather than at the very end. The user isn’t willing or excited to read a lot to know what you’re trying to say. If he doesn’t get what you want to convey in the first 2 lines, he is leaving.

Try not to use technical jargon and buzz (it’s great you know this vocabulary but the visitors don’t find it appealing). In-house employees who write web content and are pros at the technical terminology will find it easier to use such terminology while writing content.

But, it is best to keep away from it as the visitors will not find it easy to get your point. Use simple terms as far as possible. Chill, it isn’t going to make you lose your title of the ‘King /Queen of vocab’.

Visuals and Videos to Enhance E-Commerce Content

Visuals help enhance what you are trying to say, but your visuals need to be used in accordance to your e-commerce context. If you are writing about travel, you could use real visually appealing images of the place you’re writing about (clicked at proper angles). Creating a short video in context to what you are writing is very much appreciated by the visitors.

Psychology has shown that viewing a video is more relaxing than reading (about what the video plays) as it consumes lesser mental resources. ASOS.co.uk shows a catwalk style video giving the potential consumers a good idea of the type of clothing they are offering.

Assign reviews to your products

KISSmetrics has shown that about 70% of buyers look out for product reviews before buying a product. So if your e-commerce products stand without reviews, you know you’re losing out on a huge sale. Review pages inform the visitors about things they want to know – payment options, delivery time, pricing as compared to others.

Another cool thing about review pages is that on an average they appear more on search engines than selling pages. You could allow visitors/ users to leave their reviews for your products and post the reviews after moderation is carried out by you. Amazon.com is one such site that asks people for their valuable reviews.

Use Active Voice

Active voice makes sentences comprehensible quickly making the reader feel mentally in command of what is being said. On the other hand, passive voice delays this quick comprehension portrays a very academic feel and also prepares the reader to sleep. You can choose how you want the reader to feel by the voice you use.

Help People Through Descriptive Subheads in Your E-Commerce Content

Make Your E-Commerce Content More Engaging with Descriptive Subheads

Most people don’t read online. They scan online. So you can ask for attention by using subheads that are descriptive. Instead of saying ‘check out our latest bags’; you could say ‘check out our latest bling bags’.

This will not only draw the attention of the bag lovers, but also of bling lovers who will stop their scan to read, hoping to find something worthy. While you have descriptive subheads, keep the length of the paragraphs short. Long paras are boring invitations for people to doze off.

As we all know, content marketing has exploded within the past decade, making it harder every day to get content in front of eyeballs. It’s a lot of work to produce engaging, high-quality content that generates leads for your business. That’s why it’s important to have a wide array of tools in your tech stack that make content marketing just a tad easier. Here are some of our favorites:

CoSchedule

Managing an editorial calendar is a feat in and of itself. If your business is anything like ours, you’re probably focused on producing content for a variety of personas, verticals, and products. Keeping it all organized—and on schedule—can sometimes seem impossible.

That’s why CoSchedule is crucial to our content marketing team. With multiple copywriters, editors, and SEO specialists working in tandem to get our content out the door, CoSchedule keeps us all in the loop and on deadline.

We use it to keep our blog content organized, plus streamline our social media, event tracking, webinars, and blog upkeep.

The CoSchedule calendar is one of our favorite content marketing tools.

One of my favorite parts about CoSchedule is the ability to create task lists. This is especially helpful if you use this tool to track content creation for various assets, such as guides, ebooks, blog posts, and email. You can create a task list for each specific content type, ensuring you always have a curated to-do list ready for the new piece of content.

An added bonus for our team is that CoSchedule integrates with WordPress, our blog platform of choice!

WordPress

Most content marketers are familiar with WordPress, one of the most-used blogging tools in the world. We love that WordPress makes it simple to lay out and publish our blog posts. It allows us complete flexibility on the look and feel of our content, which is great for picture-heavy posts or content round-ups.

WordPress has tons of plugins you can add to make your content even more powerful, from SEO to social media.

Formstack

Producing great content includes creating a lot of deliverables and tracking tons of moving pieces. It can be difficult to keep everything aligned if you’re making design, writing, or editing requests through email or Slack. That’s why we use Formstack to streamline our marketing service request workflow.

Whether I need a cool graphic for an upcoming blog post, a link added to existing content, or a landing page built for fresh content, our MSR form makes it easy to put in marketing requests. It’s especially helpful for those outside of marketing, like sales or customer support. It routes requests to the correct marketing team member and ensures it gets placed on our JIRA board, keeping everyone accountable and on schedule.

SEMrush

Well-written content will only go so far without a strong SEO backbone to support it. We use SEMrush to identify everything from keywords and backlinks to competitor positioning and new trends. Nearly every piece of content we publish begins with SEMrush!

This tool is also important to the upkeep of our content. We’re able to track overall organic site health, which helps us identify technical issues and pages that may need some tweaking to rank higher. The brand monitoring tool provides an eagle eye for catching unlinked brand mentions, which provides me an opportunity to connect with other companies to not only build links, but pitch content as well.

Pardot

Marketing automation can get complicated in a hurry. Pardot enables us to simplify our data collection (via Formstack’s integration), while at the same time use that information to target timely emails to specific audiences. We run automated email campaigns to new trialers, as well as to leads with certain scores and traffic patterns on Formstack’s website.

Email On Acid

Guessing how your emails will appear in various email clients is settling for mediocrity. Email on Acid will parse your HTML emails in dozens of clients via actual devices, so you know precisely how your design will render.

It will also verify the validity of URLs and image links, as well as check spelling and accessibility of your code. Formstack sees the most value in the tool’s expanded offering of email metrics (including read time), which can be easily shared using graphic-rich dashboards—even with those who aren’t Email on Acid users.

Quicktime + EZGif

As a SaaS company, many of our content pieces need to include visuals of our products and processes. I personally love to add GIFs into the more technical blog posts I write. I’ve found the easiest way to do this is by pairing QuickTime with EZGif

Most of the GIFs I create are of short product walkthroughs on my computer. QuickTime makes it incredibly simple to record my screen in just a few clicks. Once I have my video, I simply upload it to the EZGif video to GIF converter, and voilà! I have a lovely new GIF to insert into my content and share on social media. It provides quite a few editing options as well, from trimming your video to adding special effects.

Hunter

If you perform link building outreach for your content, you know how frustrating it can be when you don’t have the correct email addresses for your contacts. We rely on Hunter to help us minimize the time it takes to dig up email addresses.

We simply plug in a company website URL to discover employee email addresses. Oftentimes, it will include contact information for specific roles, which helps us identify the correct marketer to contact.

I’m a huge fan of the Chrome Hunter extension. It helps streamline my outreach by making it simple to find email addresses while I’m on an external piece of content I want to link to. I simply click the cute little fox icon and BOOM! Any email addresses Hunter has found that correlates to the web address are pulled into a clean display that is easy to search.

Pro Tip: I recommend comparing your Hunter results to LinkedIn to confirm the contact is still a current employee. Plus, it may further legitimize your email in their inbox if they see your name included in a LinkedIn notification.

Moz Extension

When performing content research, it’s important to keep the quality of websites in mind when considering who to link to in a blog post or web page. Adding a link to a site with a low page authority or domain authority score may hurt your content’s SEO. That’s why I keep my Moz Chrome extension on at all times.

It provides me crucial information about a webpage that helps guide my decision on whether to include a link to the resource in my content. The MOZ toolbar gives you a website’s page authority, number of links, domain authority, and spam score. When your MOZ extension is turned on, you’ll even see the results while on Google SERPs! This is incredibly helpful when scouring tons of pages during the research phase of content development.

AnswerThePublic

Sometimes you just get stuck on the question what should I write about? For moments when my brain is struggling to spark ideas, I turn to AnswerThePublic.

This genius tool allows you to plug in a search term, and it will spit out hundreds of article ideas on one highly organized page. The site provides ideas for related terms, comparisons, prepositions, and questions. It’s a content marketer’s gold mine for article ideas!

Hemingway

After working as a content marketer for a while, many of us are able to identify weak spots in our writing. For me, it’s using passive voice much too often. That’s why I love plugging my copy into the Hemingway app. It highlights your text according to a color coded section to show you areas you could improve. These colors identify passive voice usage, hard to read sentences, adverbs, and difficult words to consider changing. It helps me polish my posts and ensures that passive voice hasn’t snuck its way in.

With so many content marketing tools available, it can be hard to decide which one to add to your tech stack next. Do you use a content marketing software we should know about? Tweet us @Formstack to tell us all about it!

content writing has evolved significantly over the past decade, and its future looks promising. As technology continues to advance and consumer behavior changes, content writers must adapt to new trends and technologies to remain competitive in the industry. In this article, we will explore the emerging trends and technologies shaping the future of content writing and provide insights on how writers can stay ahead in this ever-evolving field.

Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing

Artificial intelligence (AI) and natural language processing (NLP) are revolutionizing the way content is created and consumed. AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of data to identify trends and create personalized content that resonates with specific target audiences. These tools can also generate content at scale, making IT easier for writers to produce high-quality articles, blog posts, and other types of content.

Furthermore, NLP enables AI to understand and interpret human language, making it possible for content writers to leverage these technologies to improve their writing process. For example, AI can assist in writing more compelling headlines, optimizing content for search engines, and even suggesting relevant topics based on current industry trends. As AI and NLP continue to advance, content writers will need to incorporate these technologies into their workflow to stay relevant in the competitive landscape.

Video and Visual Content

With the rise of social media and streaming platforms, video and visual content have become increasingly popular among audiences. In fact, Cisco predicts that by 2022, online videos will make up more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic. This shift toward visual content presents new opportunities for content writers to diversify their skill set and create engaging videos, infographics, and other visual assets.

Content writers must embrace visual storytelling and learn how to effectively communicate their message through images and videos. Additionally, understanding the best practices for optimizing visual content for search engines and social media platforms will be crucial for content writers to reach a wider audience and maximize engagement.

Voice Search Optimization

Voice search is quickly becoming the preferred method of search for many consumers, thanks to the growing popularity of voice-enabled devices such as smart speakers and virtual assistants. Content writers need to adapt their writing style to accommodate voice search queries, which tend to be more conversational and long-tail in nature.

Optimizing content for voice search requires a deep understanding of natural language patterns and user intent. Content writers must focus on creating content that answers specific questions and provides concise, informative responses. Additionally, incorporating structured data markup and schema.org vocabulary can help search engines better understand and rank voice search content.

Interactive and Immersive Content

Interactive and immersive content, such as quizzes, polls, and augmented reality experiences, can captivate audiences and provide a more engaging user experience. Content writers can leverage these formats to create more interactive and memorable content that resonates with their target audience.

As technology continues to advance, content writers may also have the opportunity to explore emerging formats such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to deliver truly immersive storytelling experiences. Embracing these technologies will require content writers to adapt their writing style and learn how to create compelling narratives that leverage the unique capabilities of immersive content platforms.

Content Personalization and Contextual Relevance

Consumers are increasingly seeking personalized content experiences that cater to their individual preferences and needs. Content writers must focus on creating content that is highly relevant and contextual to their target audience. This requires a deep understanding of consumer behavior, preferences, and demographics.

Advanced analytics and data-driven insights can help content writers identify the specific needs and interests of their target audience, enabling them to create personalized content that resonates on a deeper level. By leveraging these insights, content writers can tailor their messaging, tone, and content formats to better connect with their audience and drive engagement.

Conclusion

The future of content writing is ripe with opportunities and challenges, as emerging trends and technologies continue to shape the industry. Content writers must adapt to these changes by embracing AI and NLP, mastering visual and video content, optimizing for voice search, creating immersive experiences, and personalizing content to meet the evolving needs of their audience.

By staying informed about emerging trends and technologies, content writers can position themselves as valuable assets in the digital landscape, driving meaningful engagement and delivering impactful storytelling experiences.

Keyword research is a crucial component of content writing. It is the process of identifying the keywords and phrases that people are searching for, and then using them strategically in your content to improve its visibility and search engine rankings. As a content writer, I’ve learned the importance of keyword research in content writing, and in this blog post, I’ll share my insights with you.

Why is Keyword Research Important?

Keyword research helps you understand your target audience and their needs. By identifying the keywords and phrases they use to search for information online, you can create content that addresses their questions and concerns. This can help you attract more traffic to your website, increase engagement, and build your brand online.

Keyword research also helps you optimise your content for search engines. By using relevant keywords and phrases in your content, you can improve your search engine rankings and increase your visibility online. This can help you attract more organic traffic to your website and reach a wider audience.

How to Conduct Keyword Research?

Now that you know why keyword research is important, let’s talk about how to conduct it. Here are some steps you can take:

  1. Identify your target audience: Before you start your research, you need to identify your target audience. Who are they? What are their interests and needs? What keywords and phrases do they use to search for information online?
  2. Use keyword research tools: There are many keyword research tools available, such as Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, and SEMrush. These tools can help you identify the keywords and phrases that people are searching for, as well as their search volume and competition level.
  3. Analyse your competition: Look at your competitors’ websites and content to see what keywords and phrases they are targeting. This can help you identify gaps in the market and find opportunities to rank for new keywords.
  4. Create a keyword list: Once you’ve identified the keywords and phrases that are relevant to your target audience and industry, create a keyword list. Use this list to guide your content creation and optimisation efforts.
  5. Use keywords strategically: When creating your content, use your keywords strategically. Don’t stuff your content with keywords. Instead, use them in a natural and meaningful way. Use your keywords in your headlines, subheadings, and throughout your content.

Keyword research is a crucial component of content writing. By understanding your target audience and their needs, and using relevant keywords and phrases in your content, you can improve your search engine rankings, attract more traffic to your website, and build your brand online. I encourage you to make it a part of your content creation process too.

]]>
In the digital age, search engine optimization (SEO) has become crucial for businesses and individuals seeking to increase their online visibility and drive more traffic to their websites. One of the key components of SEO is content writing, specifically SEO writing. This form of writing involves creating high-quality, engaging, and optimized content that ranks well on search engine result pages (SERPs) and attracts organic traffic. In this article, we will delve into the world of SEO writing, exploring its importance, strategies, and best practices to help you achieve success in the online realm.

Understanding SEO Writing

SEO writing is a specialized form of content writing that aims to improve a website’s visibility on search engine platforms like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. It involves incorporating relevant keywords and optimizing content to ensure it ranks higher in search engine results. SEO writers carefully craft content that not only appeals to human readers but also satisfies search engine algorithms. By understanding how search engines work and what they prioritize, SEO writers can create content that drives organic traffic and boosts website rankings.

Importance of SEO Writing

In today’s competitive online landscape, having a well-optimized website is essential for business success. SEO writing plays a pivotal role in improving search engine rankings, driving organic traffic, and increasing brand visibility. By following SEO best practices, businesses can effectively target their audience, enhance their online presence, and generate more leads. Additionally, SEO writing helps establish credibility, as high-quality content is more likely to be shared and linked to by other websites, further boosting visibility and credibility.

The Role of Keywords in SEO Writing

Keywords are the foundation of SEO writing. These are the terms or phrases that users enter into search engines when looking for information or solutions. SEO writers conduct thorough keyword research to identify relevant keywords with high search volumes and low competition. Incorporating these keywords strategically throughout the content helps search engines understand the relevance and context of the webpage. However, keyword stuffing should be avoided, as it can negatively impact readability and overall user experience.

Creating Engaging and Relevant Content

While keyword optimization is crucial, quality content that engages and satisfies the reader is equally important. SEO writing should focus on providing valuable information, addressing user queries, and offering unique insights. By producing high-quality content that resonates with the target audience, businesses can encourage longer page visits, lower bounce rates, and increased user engagement—all favorable factors in search engine algorithms.

SEO Writing Strategies: Boosting Your Online Visibility

Optimizing Meta Tags and Descriptions

Meta tags and descriptions are HTML elements that provide concise summaries of a webpage’s content. In SEO writing, optimizing meta tags and descriptions is vital for not only attracting users but also improving click-through rates (CTRs) from search engine results. SEO writers should create compelling meta tags and descriptions that accurately represent the content while enticing users to click through and explore further.

Backlink Building Strategies

Backlinks, or incoming links from other websites, play a significant role in SEO. They act as endorsements and signals of credibility to search engines, boosting a website’s authority and trustworthiness. SEO writers should employ effective backlink building strategies, such as guest blogging, influencer outreach, and content promotion, to generate high-quality backlinks from reputable sources.

Website Speed and Mobile Optimization

Website speed and mobile optimization are critical factors in SEO. In an era where users demand instant results and browsing experiences across multiple devices, search engines prioritize websites that load quickly and offer seamless mobile experiences. SEO writers should focus on optimizing website speed, eliminating unnecessary elements, and ensuring responsive design to enhance user experience and improve search engine rankings.

Social Media Integration for SEO

Social media platforms provide an excellent opportunity to increase website visibility and drive traffic. SEO writers should integrate social media into their content strategies by creating shareable content, engaging with the audience, and promoting their website through social media channels. This helps boost brand awareness, attract inbound links, and generate social signals—all contributing factors to improved SEO performance.

Tracking and Analyzing SEO Performance

To gauge the effectiveness of SEO efforts, it is crucial to track and analyze SEO performance regularly. SEO writers should utilize tools like Google Analytics and Search Console to monitor website metrics, keyword rankings, organic traffic, and user behavior. This data provides valuable insights into the success of SEO strategies, allowing for continuous optimization and improvement.

Conclusion

SEO writing is a powerful tool in achieving online success. By understanding the principles of SEO writing, incorporating relevant keywords, creating engaging content, optimizing meta tags and descriptions, building backlinks, optimizing for mobile, and leveraging social media, businesses can enhance their online visibility, attract organic traffic, and increase conversions. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, staying up to date with SEO trends and best practices is crucial for maintaining a competitive edge in the online world.
